Mike was playing "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes tonight.
"Walk for Life" is organised by the American Cancer Society. I think this is really special. There were lots of people, young and old, coming out to support financially and morally.
There were many tents in the middle of the field, that people would be resting overnight. White paper bags, individually filled with sand inside the bottom and a candle on the top of the sand were lined up on both sides, making 2 big circumferences in the field. People were walking between the circumferences. The candles were lighted as the sun went gone and lighted the way for those who walked. There were probably thousands of these bags and each one of them has a name handwritten on it, in memory of a beloved family member or friend that has gone over the veil due to cancer.
Among the crowd are people - let me recall - in blue T-shirts, with the word "Survivor" printed on the back. I was told these are people who have been cancer stricken, have been treated, etc. etc. I saw a girl, less than 10 years old and she is also a victim.
Mike's dad died of liver cancer. My paternal grandfather died of bladder cancer in 1976.
